Also take note of the weather conditions where you are for planning the timeline of your window creation/placement.
In Australia I leave my windows to the very last minute I can possibly manage without delaying the build too much (i.e. I create as much of the decorative surrounds as possible before I begin constructing the house rather than constructing and then decorating). This is because gelatin windows curl and pop out of their icing frames in the hot/humidity of summer and poured sugar or isomalt windows will sag and run in warm weather >:( I learned this the hard way the first year I made windows and ended up having to place a pair of cricketing kids in the yard to explain the holes in the windows! ::) ..... And then pipe a vine trailing down the wall to hide the run of sugar! :P

Hi Ashley,
I use either poured sugar (sugar glass) or gelatin sheets depending on the style of the house.
Your can used melted crushed candy as well.
Hope that helps,
Susan

What do you use to have realistic windows in your house?
