Description: My daughters (now 12 and 14) and I have been making a gingerbread house at Halloween for seven years now. This was the first year we used a "construction grade" gingerbread recipe (the one from your website), and it worked great. Much sturdier than the past. We used the pattern from the Haunted Dimensions website but we elongated the roof, and then embellished it with a front portico from one of the Ultimate Gingerbread haunted house patterns. The other towers and rooms were done free hand and added to the basic framework. We decorated each rooftop differently this year. The main roof is scored fondant; the waffle cone tower used one type of sprinkles, and we used another type of sprinkles for the left tower. Then we used black pearls for the right front top; licorice nibs for center top; and a combination of licorice nibs and orange tic-tacs for the right front lower. We used melted butterscotch for windows. The slime pond is melted butterscotch tinted with green food coloring. Tree base is made from pretzel rods covered in black candy melts with twizler branches. Graham cracker sides and roof to a left-over piece of ginger for the tree house itself. The swing is a mini oreo with green licorice rope. Chocolate pretz ladder. Wilton chocolate mold for the tomb stones. We always use corn flakes for the dried leafs in the yard. Licorice and candy corn fence. Friends always ask, "How much time did it take?" My response: "The better question is, 'How much fun did we have?'" Lots! We enjoyed reviewing all the amazing houses on your site for inspiration. Thank you.
