l put my pieces on a lazy susan and decorate them put them aside to dry then assemble them. l find it much easier.

Yes!  Decorating the pieces while they are flat is much easier than decorating on the standing surface.  I do some of the decorating while the pieces are flat on the table, and then the remaining details after the structure is built.
