Never thought of this.  I piped mine.  I found a picture of real fencing that I loved and made several copies of the sections on a piece of paper.  I covered the picture with wax paper and then piped the pattern with Royal Icing.  Let it harden and then gently and carefully pealed it off.  They were VERY delicate but REALLY pretty.  That was my first attempt at doing my own house from a pattern baking it all on my own.
Haven't had the time or the room to tinker since, I'm hoping to make a little something this year.
