I played around with using a sheet of fondant, using a toothpick and exacto knife to carve the stone shapes, then airbrushing grey to make it look right.  Here's a link to my 'inspiration': http://www.gingerbreadexchange.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;id=2410

But then I remembered that last year the judges dinged me for lack of color, so wound up pressing giant colored sugar 'dots' (the kind you get on sheets of paper) into royal frosting for a very symetrical 'stone' wall.  They must have liked it because I got first place this year.  I'm about to post my photos.

I'm late here, but for the benefit of others -- I got lazy and bought a bag of the small chocolates that look like stones and used those!

I also have a rolling pin that has a stone wall pattern.
